چکیده

Obtaining simultaneous radio and X–ray data during the outburst decay of soft X– ray transients is a potentially important tool to study the disc – jet connection. Here we report results of the analysis of (nearly) simultaneous radio (VLA or WSRT) and Chandra X–ray observations of XTE J1908+094 during the last part of the decay of the source after an outburst. The limit on the index of a radio – X–ray correlation we find is consistent with the value of ∼ 0.7 which was found for other black hole candidates in the low/hard state. Interestingly, the limit we find seems more consistent with a value of 1.4 which was recently shown to be typical for radiatively efficient accretion flow models. We further show that when the correlation–index is the same for two sources one can use the differences in normalisation in the radio – X–ray flux correlation to estimate the distance towards the sources if the distance of one of them is accurately known (assuming black hole spin and mass and jet Lorentz factor differences are unimportant or minimal). Finally, we observed a strong increase in the rate of decay of the X–ray flux. Between March 23, 2003 and April 19, 2003 the X–ray flux decayed with a factor ∼5 whereas between April 19, 2003 and May 13, 2003, the X–ray flux decreased by a factor ∼750. The source (0.5–10 keV) luminosity at the last Chandra observation was L ≈ 3× 10( d 8.5kpc )erg s.

Broad - band X - ray measurements of the black hole candidate XTE J 1908 + 094

XTE J1908+094 is an X-ray transient that went into outburst in February 2002. After two months it reached a 2-250 keV peak flux of 1 to 2 × 10 erg cms. Circumstantial evidence points to an accreting galactic black hole as the origin of the the X-radiation: pulsations nor thermonuclear flashes were detected that would identify a neutron star and the spectrum was unusually hard for a neutron star...

The black hole candidate XTE J1752−223 towards and in quiescence: optical and simultaneous X-ray–radio observations

We present optical, X-ray and radio observations of the black hole transient (BHT) XTE J1752−223 towards and in quiescence. Optical photometry shows that the quiescent magnitude of XTE J1752−223 is fainter than 24.4 mag in the i′ band. A comparison with measurements of the source during its 2009–2010 outburst shows that the outburst amplitude is more than 8 mag in the i′ band. Known X-ray prope...

X - ray states and radio emission in the black hole candidate XTE J 1550 − 564

We report on radio and X-ray observations of the black hole candidate (BHC) XTE J1550−564 performed during its 2000 X-ray outburst. Observations have been – 2 – conducted with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and have allowed us to sample the radio behavior of XTE J1550−564 in the X-ray Low Hard and Intermedi-ate/Very High states. We observed optically thin radio emission from XTE J...

Resolved, expanding jets in the Galactic black hole candidate XTEJ1908+094

Black hole X-ray binaries undergo occasional outbursts caused by changing inner accretion flows. Here we report high-angular resolution radio observations of the 2013 outburst of the black hole candidate X-ray binary system XTE J1908+094, using data from the VLBA and EVN. We show that following a hard-to-soft state transition, we detect moving jet knots that appear asymmetric in morphology and ...

A highly polarised radio jet during the 1998 outburst of the black hole transient XTE J 1748 − 288

XTE J1748-288 is a black hole X-ray transient which went into outburst in 1998 June. The X-ray lightcurves showed canonical morphologies, with minor variations on the “Fast Rise Exponential Decay” profile. The radio source, however, reached an unusually high flux density of over 600 mJy. This high radio flux was accompanied by an exceptional (> 20%) fractional linear polarisation, the variabili...
